The Emperor's Soul tuli myyntiin ilmoitettua nopeammin, jo lokakuussa. Sen alusta paljastettiin samalla näyte. Pienoisromaani on nyt saatavilla myös DRM-vapaana sähkökirjana. Arvostelun ovat laatineet mm. Graeme's Fantasy Book Review ja Civilian Reader.

Stormlight 2:n ensimmäisen vedoksen valmistumismittari nousi 15 prosenttiin. Kirjalla ei ole vieläkään nimeä, mutta Sandersonin tavoitteena on yhä saada se valmiiksi ensi vuoden marraskuussa tapahtuvaa julkaisua varten.

Sandersonin brittikustantaja Gollancz julkaisee ensi toukokuussa kaksi tuoretta pienoisromaania Legion ja The Emperor's Soul yhteisniteenä.

Ilmestyminen lykkääntyi elokuulle.

Steelheartin amerikkalaiskansikuva julkistettiin. Toisesta nuortenkirjasta The Rithmatistista voi lukea ensimmäisen näytteen Tor.comissa. Taikakirjaimet-blogi arvosteli marraskuussa pienoisromaanit The Emperor's Soul ja Legion.

Sanderson puhuu uudessa haastattelussa Elantriksen mahdollisesta jatko-osasta:

So when my editor said, "Do you want to do a sequel?" I said, Yes, I have a sequel, but I don't want to do it. At least not right now because I like the idea of having a stand-alone for people to be able to try me out with.

That was then. Nowadays, most people who try me out pick up the Mistborn trilogy, because it stands as a completed work. So I now could do Elantris. The problem is, Elantris is a really good stand-alone. I don't want everyone who reads and writes the fantasy genre to feel that everything has to be a series. I am conflicted about it.

Viime viikolla kerrottiin The Way of Kingsin jatko-osan nimi: Words of Radiance. Jos Sanderson saa kirjan tarpeeksi nopeasti valmiiksi, ilmestyy se marraskuussa. Jos ei, niin julkaisu lykkääntyy ensi vuodelle.

Patrick Rothfuss antoi syyskuussa ilmestyvälle Steelheartille viisi tähteä Goodreadsissa.

Unfortunately for my ego, Steelheart is another win for Sanderson, proving that he's not a brilliant writer of epic fantasy, he's simply a brilliant writer. Period.

Simply said. Great book. Tight writing. Nice take on superheroes. Nice world creation. Absolutely worth your time.

Minulta meni ohi, että Sanderson kertoi viime syksynä seuraavan Mistborn-romaanin nimen: Shadows of Self. Tämä on The Alloy of Law'n jatko-osa ja ilmestyy kirjailijan viimeaikaisten puheiden perusteella ensi vuonna.

Question: When is the next Mistborn book coming out?
Brandon: 2014

Question: Is there going to be any more Mistborn books?
Brandon: Yes, there will. 2014 there will be a sequel to Alloy of Law.

The Book Smugglers arvosteli juuri ilmestyneen The Rithmatistin.

And I’ll certainly be around for subsequent books – because ultimately, The Rithmatist is a solid, imaginative start to a new YA fantasy series. I absolutely cannot wait to return to Joel and Melody’s world, and absolutely recommend this book, especially for fans of complicated magical systems…and lovers of geometry.

I’ve often said that great stories are about great characters first. But beyond that, science fiction stories are about ideas and fantasy stories are about the setting. I think that’s why when I come up with a great idea story, I write it as science fiction. If I come up with some interesting setting element, like a great magic system, I write it as fantasy.

Sanderson kertoo kotisivuillaan Rithmatistin taustasta. Ensimmäinen versio valmistui kesällä 2007, kun hän hylkäsi aloittamansa eeppisen fantasiaromaanin The Liar of Partinel.

The Rithmatist, though an awesome book, languished for years because I didn't have the time to devote to it.

And hopefully someday I'll be able to fix The Liar of Partinel. (At this point, I'm feeling I need to rewrite it as a first-person narrative, though making that switch is going to cause an entire host of problems.)

This book is a favorite among my beta readers. (The Rithmatist has been around in draft form for some six years now, so many of the inner circle of my fans have read it already.) It's a fun, quick read that (hopefully) will tide you over while I'm finishing up Stormlight 2, Words of Radiance. (About 80% done with that right now.)

Last chapter of Words of Radiance (Stormlight 2) is done. Still have to do epilogue, epigraphs, and a few interludes. But we have an ending!

I was going to try to make this one shorter than the last one. Technically, it IS shorter. Draft is still 1650 pages, of course...
