Lukuhaaste: Goodreads 2018
27. A book about surviving a hardship (war, famine, major disasters, serious illness, etc)
Jamie Sawyer: Origins (Book 3 of the Lazarus War)
- Sawyerin vauhdikas päätös Lazarus trilogialle, jossa viimeiseen asti lennetään, juostaan ja taistellaan. Lopulta pelissä on koko universumin elämä, eikä enää vain Lazarus Legionin. Tästä scifi sarjasta olen tykännyt kovasti, Sawyer oli alunperin uusi tuttavuus, Lazarus War -trilogia on ollut erittäin viihdyttävä, vauhdikas ja mukanaanpitävä avaruusooppera.

19. A book nominated for the Edgar Award or by a Grand master author - Erik Larson: The Devil in the White City
Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime 2004. Kirja kertoi Chicagon maailmannäyttelystä v 1893 ja toisena juonilankana järkyttävän sarjamurhaajan tarinan. Erityisen järkyttävä siksi, että tarina oli tosi. Kyseinen monella nimellä esiintynyt murhaaja saattoi tappaa jopa 200 ihmistä vaikkakaan uhrien todellista määrää ei koskaan saatu selville.

40. A book from Amazon's 100 Books to Read in a Lifetime list David Sedaris: Me talk pretty one day
Kirja koostuu eri pituisista omaelämäkerrallisista tarinoista liittyen Sedarisin perheeseen, lapsuuteen, harjoittamiin ammatteihin ja elämään amerikkalaisena Ranskassa. Takakannessa Sedarisia kuvataan "Amerikan johtavaksi humoristiksi", mutta minusta kirja ei ollut kovinkaan hauska (paitsi luku, jossa sadistisen ranskankielen opettajan kansainväliset oppilaat yrittävät vajavaisilla kielitaidoillaan selittää marokkolaiselle toverilleen mikä on pääsiäinen) ja Sedaris itse vaikutti aika epäsympaattiselta tyypiltä.

47. A book where the main character (or author) is of a different ethnic origin, religion, or sexual identity than your own - Octavia E. Butler: Kindred

Tess Gerritsen: Painoton tila

Joanne M. Harris: The Gospel of Loki

Neil Gaiman: The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Kirjan nimen ja kansikuvan lisäksi vesielementti valtameri on mukana merkitsevästi sisällössä, kuten myös lampi. Ja on siinä muutakin veteen liittyvää.
Olipas kerrassaan upea tarina – tarina joka piti otteessaan koko kirjan ajan alusta viimeriveille saakka – ei tapahtunut notkahduksia eikä mitään latistumisia missään vaiheessa. Kirja aiheutti jopa kylmät väreet jossain kohtaa, mikä on hyvän tarinan kerronnan merkki.
