Kovasti hypetetty kirja on uusi, tässä kuussa suomeksi ilmestynyt samaan aikaa alkukielisen teoksen kanssa. 35 vuoden jälkeen Atwood päätti kirjoittaa suuren suosion saavuttaneelle Orjattaresi tarinalle jatkon. Meneillään oleva TV-sarja on lisännyt vaan tarinan suosiota ja varmasti nyt oli otollinen aika jatko-osalle. (Btw,Testamenttien varausjono Helmetissä on aika pitkä - 1833)
Orjattaresi ei olisi vaatinut jatkoa, mutta ei se haitannutkaan. Luin teoksen varsin mielelläni. Uutuus ja yllätys elementti kirjasta puuttuu, koska Orjattaresi teki jo sen tehtävän – maailma on nyt jo tuttu. Tätä kirjaa luki siten eri lähtökohdista. Nyt kun olen katsonut myös TV sarjaa (2 kautta), Lydia-tädin hahmo oli minulle yhtä kuin TV-sarjan hahmo. Ja nimenomaan Lydian tarinaosuudet olivat ne kaikkein kiinnostavimmat kirjassa. 4/5

Reilu 9 vuotta ollut hyllyssä lukemattomana. Joskus yritin sitä alkaa lukea, mutta ajankohta ei ollut otollinen. Tiesin, että joskus sen vielä luen ja nyt oli sopiva hetki.
Alussa jouduin hieman ponnistelemaan, että tarina avautui ymmärrettäville urille. Pian tarina kuitenkin lähti rullaamaan mukavasti, jolloin lukeminen oli varsin miellyttävää ja vaivatonta. Hiukan vähemmän olisi tosin saanut olla kielikuvien käyttöä, mutta ei se merkittävästi häirinnyt. Tarinassa pyöritään musiikin ja epätavallisten soittimien ympärillä ja juonessa on melko tavanomaiset teemat – tyranni hallitsija, vallananastaja ja kosto. Silti kirjan tarina eikä sen tyyli ole mitään tusina kamaa, mistä tulee suuri plussa.
Harmi, kun McKillipiä ei ole suomennettu lisää. Olen alkanut viimeistään nyt lämpenemään McKillipin tarinoille, kun kaikki suomennokset on luettu. Unohdettu Ombria pitäisi lukea uudelleen ja täytynee myös kokeilla, jos hänen tekstit sujuisivat minulta englanniksi. 4
