But there are a lot of dark chapters right now in the book that I’m writing. It is called The Winds of Winter, and I’ve been telling you for 20 years that winter was coming. Winter is the time when things die, and cold and ice and darkness fills the world, so this is not gonna be the happy feel-good that people may be hoping for. Some of the characters [are] in very dark places…In any story, the classic structure is, ‘Things get worse before they get better,’ so things are getting worse for a lot of people.
For me, that’s part of the fun of reading and writing is having stories that maybe have a little ambiguity to them, a little subtlety to them, and everything is not crystal clear and laid out.
Not done yet, but I've made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now.
I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).
Nämä on periaatteessa vanhan toistoa, eikä kovin rohkaisevaa TWoW:n kannalta, mutta onhan aina toivonkipinä, kun kirjailijakin rohkaistuu puhumaan.
I will likely write more stories set in the world of Westeros after ICE & FIRE. Dunk and Egg, for starts.
Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of A Game of Thrones!
I have a story in the book. "The Sons of the Dragon" is the title. Those of you who enjoyed "The Princess and the Queen" in DANGEROUS WOMEN and "The Rogue Prince" in ROGUES will probably like this one too. It's water from the same well. A history rather than a traditional narrative. A lot of telling, only a little showing. (The opposite of what I do in my novels). But if you're fascinated by the politics of Westeros, as many of my readers seem to be, you should enjoy it. As the title suggests, "The Sons of the Dragon" chronicles the reigns of the second and third Targaryen kings, Aenys I and Maegor the Cruel, along with their mothers, wives, sisters, children, friends, enemies, and rivals.
next year's THE BOOK OF MAGIC (which will also have a story from me, a reprint).
The anthologies, much as I loved them, were taking too much of my time, so I stepped back from them... until I finish THE WINDS OF WINTER, at least. Once that's done, maybe I can sneak another one in...
"The Sons of the Dragon" came from the same place. Gardner asked me for a story. I told him I did not have the time to write a story. He asked if perhaps I had more like "The Princess and the Queen" lying about... as it happened, I did. So I sent him "The Sons of the Dragon," he liked it, and there we are.

Ilmeisesti seitsemän kirjaa ei siis ole varma asia. GRRM mainitsee Wild Cardsiin liittyen:
I consider A SONG OF ICE & FIRE to be one single gigantic story published in multiple volumes. (Seven, I hope).
We've had twenty-three books published to date, three more finished and delivered and in the pipeline for publication in 2017 and 2018, more to come.
Tarkoittaako tämä sitä, että Martin kirjoittaa samanaikaisesti sarjan kahta viimeistä osaa? Vai onko haastattelija tehnyt omat tulkintansa?
Martin is currently working on the final volumes of the enormously popular fantasy novel series that inspired HBO's Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire, and so interviews with him are rarely granted. But for Beauty and the Beast — a project he is deeply fond and proud of — he made an exception.
I AM STILL WORKING ON WINDS OF WINTER and will continue working on it until it's done. I will confess, I do wish I could clone myself, or find a way to squeeze more hours into the day, or a way to go without sleep. But this is what it is, so I keep on juggling. WINDS OF WINTER, five successor shows, FIRE AND BLOOD (that's the GRRMarillion, remember?), four new Wild Cards books, some things I can't tell you about yet... it's a good thing I love my work.
I've only written and published three novellas to date, and there are at least seven or eight or ten more I want to write.
by the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert's Rebellion. There would be no surprises or revelations left
Sorry, no more sample chapters. We need to leave some stuff for the book itself, after all.
Jos Winds olisi lähellä valmistumista, ei Martinilla olisi mitään syytä mainita tällaista.
I probably won't be writing episodes of ANY television shows until WINDS OF WINTER is done and delivered
And, yes, I know you all want to know about THE WINDS OF WINTER too. I've seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by 'journalists' who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don't know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I've been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both 'reports' are equally false and equally moronic. I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say. Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018... and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream...
Luulen, että suurin osa suomalaisista lukijoista olisi halunnut uudeksi Martin-julkaisuksi mieluummin Dunk & Egg -kokoelman, jonka käännöstä on lupailtu pitkään. Kovakantisen Korppien kestit olisi kai voinut siirtää tärkeysjärjestyksessä myöhemmäksi... Huomasin, että nettikirjakauppojen mukaaan kirjan nidottu laitos on tällä hetkellä loppuunmyyty.
Kovakantinen kuvitettu Korppien kestit on juuri ilmestynyt!
Adlibris toimittaa nyt teoksen. Sitä en tiedä, löytyykö kovakantinen Korppien kestit jo kirjakaupoista.
KiLLPaTRiCK kirjoitti: Kuinkakohan kauan taas kestää, että Korppien Kestit ehtivät kirjakauppoihin asti?
