50. A book that involves aging, or a character in their golden years - Alastair Reynolds: Susien aika
Kirjan päähenkilö, minäkertoja on vanha. Mm. kryouni on hänelle merkittävä riski, vaikka hänen eliniänodotustansa on muokattu. Muitakin kurttuisia ja vanhoja päähahmoja on tarinassa.

41. A book with a theme of food or drink - Paolo Bacigalupi: The Windup Girl

30. A book related to mythology - Susanna Clarke: Piranesi
Myytti Minotauroksesta ja Labyrintistä on läsnä kirjassa. Toisaalta teemassa on ammennettu myös 1700 luvulla vaikuttaneen italialaisen taiteilijan Giovanni Battista Piranesin töistä kuvitteellisista vankiloista.
Kirjan teema ja juoni avautui pikkuhiljaa kirjaa lukiessa. Päähahmon mielenmaisema on saatu hienosti esiin kerronnassa. 4½

44. A book with gothic elements - Sadeq Hedayat: Sokea pöllö
Eri lähteissä kirjaa on luonnehdittu goottilaiseksi kauhuksi tai goottilaistyyliseksi. Synkkyys, pelko ja kuolema on kirjan elementtejä. Tarinaa on myös verrattu Edgar Allan Poen teksteihin.
Tarina on kafkamainen, surrealistinen, ooppiumhöyryinen, painajaismainen. Minäkertojassa on epämiellyttäviä piirteitä. Tarina sisältää inhorealistisia kohtauksia ja on ahdistavakin. 2½
