Niitä taitoja tarvitaan hopean käsittelyyn – taikuuteen, jolla voidaan saavuttaa vaikka mitä.   Juonen lomassa käsitellään sukupuolten välistä eriarvoisuutta sekä rikkaiden ja köyhien välistä kuilua siinä mielessä, että rikkaat tuhlaavat merkityksettömiin asioihin varoja ja köyhillä ei ole perustarpeita. Ennen kaikkea kirjassa otetaan vahvasti kantaa rasismiin. Menestystä ja pokaaleja kuitenkin tuli (kultainenkin) ja onneksi myös arvostusta jälkijättöisesti vanhuuden päivillään.
