A book with a strong female character: Kaari Utrio: Oppinut neiti[/i]   Kirjassa on useitakin voimakkaita naishahmoja: päähenkilö, kouluja käynyt neiti Sofia Malm, jonka päätä eivät miehet käännä - paitsi tietysti lopulta se yksi. Ruustinna, joka yrittää järjestää paitsi oman, miehensä ja poikansa urat, myös puolen pitäjän elämänkohtalot. Vanha leskiarmo, joka lopulta kääntää asiat taas oikealle tolalleen. Kaari Utrio osaa tämän puolen. :heart:   Lomalukemisena tosiaan tällaista kevyempää kerrontaa eli ihmissuhteita ja seurapiirijuoruja 1830-luvun Suomesta. Välistä käydään valtakunnan pääkaupungin Pietarin salongeissa ja Lapin tuntureilla, mikä tekee kirjasta myös miljöön puolesta sangen monipuolisen. Olin jo unohtanut, miten taitavia henkilökuvia Utrio luo: näille ja monen tilanteen koomisuudelle nauraa, vaikka samalla tarina tietysti on myös traagisen ihana. Ja lopussa tietysti oleelliset henkilöhahmot saavat toisensa, mikäs sen mukavampaa. Pientä Ylpeys ja ennakkoluulo -vibaa tässä kirjassa vielä makuna sopassa.

Suosikkigenreni alagenreä scifisarjakuva: Orzi, Kurtzman & Messina Star trek Countdown 1-4. Sijoittuu ajallisesti Nemesiksen jälkeen, ja valottaa 2009 Star trekin tapahtumia - joista en voi sanoa pitäväni enkä siksi varsinaisesti tästäkään, mutta ihan hyvin kursittu aukkoa umpeen ja piirroksetkin menettelevät.

[i]16. A mystery: Agatha Christie: He tulivat Bagdadiin[/i]   Tämä oli ehkä enemmänkin trilleri, mutta kyllä siitä mysteeripiirteitäkin löytyi, joten uskallan sijoittaa kirjan tähän kategoriaan. Kylmän sodan aikaista vakoilua Irakissa! Kyseessä on hyvin erilainen romaani kuin perinteiset Agatha Christiet, jossa Poirot tai neiti Marple ratkoo yhtä rikosta harmailla aivosoluillaan ja lopussa paljastaa murhaajan. Tämä oli myös poliittisempi kirja kuin Christieltä äkkiseltään osaisi odottaa - mutta hyvin jännittävä ja kiinnostava. Miljöön kuvaus oli taas loistavaa, tykkään.

Kirjailija, jota en ennen ole lukenut: Hugh Laurie Järein asein. Ihan ovela juonikuvio ja pidän siitä, miten kirjoittaja ajattelee, mutten täysin siitä miten hän kirjoittaa: käy rasittavaksi, kun joka lauseessa pitää olla jokin vitsi. Ihan kuin englantilainen sanomalehti, jossa yksikään otsikko ei saa jäädä ilman sanaleikkiä. Napattu viime vuonna alennuslaarista 2 eurolla luonnollisesti siksi, että kirjoittaja on House.

[b]12. A book based on a myth[/b] - Maggie Stiefvater: The Scorpio Races. Kirjailijan mukaan mm. Skotlannissa ja Irlannissa on myytti vesihevosista, johon tämä kirja pohjautuu. Kiva, varsinkin hevosten ystäville. [b]39. An epistolary fiction -[/b] Alice Walker: Häivähdys purppuraa. Todella koskettava tarina mustan naisen elämästä 1900-luvun alkupuoliskolla kirjoitettuna kirjeiden muotoon. Kansi oli tympeä ja avatessani kirjan huomasin, että se oli kirjoitettu ärsyttävästi puhekielellä, eikä kirja alkuun houkutellut lukemaan. Pian tajusin, että puhekielisyys kirjoitusvirheineen oli kirjailijalta oikea valinta: oli helpompi päästä kouluja käymättömän päähenkilön pään sisälle ja ymmärtää hänen maailmaansa. Lopulta tämä raastava tarina tuli ahmittua melkein yhtä soittoa loppuun. Joku herkkänahkaisempi olisi itkenyt. Suosittelen.

Kirjassa vahva naishahmo: Suzanne Collins Matkijanärhi. Vaikka Katniss Everdeen on toisaalta kirjan heikointa antia, on hän kuitenkin päähenkilö ja toisessa mielessä ilman muuta vahva hahmo. Hienosti pysyi tarina valitulla linjalla loppuun asti. Ensimmäinen elokuva odottaa jo katsomistaan.
