Kääntäjänä luonnollisesti Mika Kivimäki. Lukiessa tuli mieleen, että olisi kyllä mukava saada omaan hyllyyn se vanhempi käännös vuodelta 1992, mutta pienen googlettelun jälkeen asia taitaa jäädä vielä syvään harkintaan. Toisaalta kirjassa tuodaan esiin kuolemattomien jumalien itseriittoisuus ja julmuus, jota voi peilata myös nykyaikaan. Kirjassa esiintyy sisarus vihaa ja oman edun tavoittelua, kiusaamista sekä vanhempien välinpitämättömyyttä ja hyljeksintää. Oli vaikea löytää spekulatiivisesta kentästäkään tähän sopivaa kirjaa, mutta  bongassin nettisuosituksen pitkästä novellista, joka sopi hyvin aiheeseen. Tarinassa kuvattu kansa oli elementissään vedessä. He olivat iloisia, nauravaisia sekä ihastuttavan lapsenomaisia ja leikkisiä. Heidän erityispiirteensä ja ihanteensa oli olla mahdollisimman isoja ja lihavia. He olivat tarinan hyviksiä ja varsin sympaattisia. 3½ [/spoiler][color=#16a085]20. A genre hybrid[/color] [spoiler=Mariana Enriquez: Mitä liekit meiltä veivät]Kirjan päägenre mielestäni on kauhu. Tosi tarinat ja myytit sekä reaalimaailma ovat pohjana epätodellisiin tarinoihin. Voisi sanoa genren siten olevan myös maagista realismia.   Tarinat ovat myös ns. korkea kirjallisuutta.Tarinat eivät ole vain pelkästään kauhuefektin aikaan saaminen vaan niissä on perustana reaalimaailman epäkohdat ja ilmiöt. Useissa tarinoissa keskiössä on huono parisuhde tai tyttöporukan itsekeskeisyys. Keskeisessä asemassa on köyhälistö, slummit ja laitapuolen asukkaat. Mielenterveys ongelma teema on paljon edustettuna.   Joukkoon mahtuu makaabereita, häiritseviä ja vainoharhaisia tarinoita. Mukavia tarinoita ei joukosta löydy. 4-[/spoiler][color=#16a085]22. Miljöötä myös kuvataan elävästi.   Tarina on verkkainen ja aika paljon myös toistava. Kaikissa niissä, niin kuin tässäkin kokoelmassa tyylilaji on maaginen realismi ja tunnelmallinen Barcelona näyttelee isoa roolia– tuntuu, että romaanimitassa tunnelma puoli välittyi syvällisemmin kuin näissä lyhyissä tarinoissa. On vierähtänytkin kolme vuotta, kun luin rankkuudessaan loisteliaan osan 7. Nyt on hyvä jatkaa, kun uusiakin osia lienee luvassa. Osa 8 tuntui aika tyngältä ja pirstaleiselta, mutta oli siinä selkeää teemaa ja sitä sarjaan kuuluvaa huumoriakin löytyi. 3½ [/spoiler][color=#16a085]36. Vaikka Arthur Machen on klassikkokirjailija, niin ei hän valtaryhmän keskuudessa ole niin suosittu, että englanninkielisetkään kokoelmat yltäisi 1000 arvosteluun Goodreadsessä.[/spoiler][color=#16a085]37. Voisin kuvitella, että hän pitää myös [i]Vieraista[/i]. Itselleni putosi [i]Vieraat[/i] paremmin ja se taitaa olla paras lukemani Sinisalon kirja. Tarina etenee hitaanlaisesti, mutta kuusi vuotiaan lapsen, Sissin, hahmo on niin kiinnostava, että hitaus ei häirinnyt. Hahmot muutenkin ovat hyvin luotuja, vaikka sateenkaariperheen pää, Essi, on melkoisen ärsyttävä persoona. 4[/spoiler][color=#16a085]38. A book about art or an artist[/color] [spoiler=Kurt Vonnegut: Siniparta ]Tarinan minä hahmo, taidemaalari ja taiteen keräilijä Rabi Karabekian kertoo elämästään. Kaikenlaisen jutustelun ohella myös taiteesta.   Olen lukenut Vonnegutilta muutamia varsin mainioita teoksia, mutta tämä kirja ei ollut yhtään omaan makuuni. Siinä ei ole oikein kunnon juonta vaan kerrotaan yksittäisistä ei niin kiinnostavista tapahtumista. Olisin jättänyt kirjan kesken normaalisti, mutta koska kirja sopi kahteen vaikeahkoon haastekohtaan punnersin loppu kirjan läpi väkipakolla (viimeiset sata sivua melkoisesti harppoen.)[/spoiler][color=#16a085]39. He ovat muutenkin erityisiä, kirjassa käsitelläänkin erilaisuutta ja sen hyväksymistä. Tarina on soveltuva kaiken ikäisille - lapsesta aikuiseen. Aloitin ensin lukemaan ekotrilleriä [i]Pedot[/i], jossa oli 912 sivua, mutta päätin parin sadan sivun jälkeen, etten jaksa lukea kirjaa ollenkaan. Seuraavaksi pisin oli [i]Kuolema on ikuinen[/i] 874 sivulla.[/spoiler][color=#16a085]42. TBR rajattu omiin suomenkielisiin painettuihin kirjoihin. Lyhin hyllyssä oli Ambrose Biercen [i]Lyhyitä tarinoita[/i], jonka sisältö on raapaleita. Raapaleet eivät yleensäkään ole iskeneet ja jaksoin lukea muutamia sivuja, kunnes päätin, että en tule kirjaa lukemaan loppuun vaan se menee kiertoon. Samoin seuraavaksi lyhyimmät kuusi kpl[i] X-files[/i] pokkareita tyhjentyy hyllystä lukemattomina. Ne ei kiinnosta yhtään nyt eikä todennäköisesti tulevaisuudessakaan.   Seuraavaksi lyhyin oli Leena Krohnin [i]Salaisuuksia[/i] 104 sivulla. Suhtauduin jo valmiiksi kirjaan skeptisesti, mutta yllätyinkin iloisesti. Kirja oli hyvä.[/spoiler][color=#16a085]43. Alkuun määrittelin, että näihin TBR kohtiin valkkaan kirjat omasta hyllystä, mutta näin ei kuitenkaan käynyt tässä kohtaa. Koska oman hyllyn lukemattomissa ei ole näin hienoa kantta kuin tässä kirjassa, on aika selviö, että sijoitan kirjan tähän kohtaan.   [i]Älä riko pintaa[/i] on novellikokoelma, jonka tarinat sijoittuvat samaan maailmaan. Kaiken kaikkiaan tarinat olivat keskihyviä, useat synkän puoleisia. Pidin kolmea tarinaa erinomaisina. The book on your TBR list with the ugliest cover[/color] [spoiler=Hal Duncan: Pako helvetistä!]En arvota kirjaa kannen perusteella, mutta herää kuitenkin epäilys onko kansilla joku piilo psykologinen vaikutus siihen, kuinka innokkaasti kirjaan tulee tartuttua nimittäin hyllyssäni näyttää olevan aika monta lukematonta karseilla kansilla varustettua kirja. Ehkä tämän kirjan kansikuva ei ole niistä visuaalisella tasolla rumin, ennemminkin sen esittämä maailma näyttää olevan ruma ja masentava. Siispä sanoisin, että kansikuvan fiilis on ”rumin” oman hyllyn lukemattomista kirjoista.[/spoiler][color=#16a085]45. Sellaista helppoa ajanviete lukemista, missä ei tarvitse rasittaa aivoja, upposi tähän hetkeen ihan hyvin. 3[/spoiler][color=#16a085]46. A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn’t[/color] [spoiler=Alastair Reynolds: Luiden hiljaisuus]Ehdin aloittaa kirjan lukemisen jo viime vuonna, mutta oli sen verran tuhti opus, että sain vasta tänä vuonna päätökseen.[/spoiler][color=#16a085]47. A book from your TBR list you associate with a favorite person, place, or thing[/color] [spoiler=Risto Isomäki: Herääminen][b][i]Place/thing[/i][/b]: Risto Isomäen teokset yhdistän luontoon ja luonnon suojeluun. Rakastan luontoa.   Kirja käsittelee Isomäen tapaan ilmastonmuutosta. Kasvihuoneilmiön ympärille kirjailija on keksinyt mukiinmenevän ja kimurantinkin juonen, jossa mukana myös vieras äly. Tarinassa on totuutta ja valistusta ympäristö asioissa, mutta suuressa juonikuviossa tarina toki on epäuskottava. Fiktiivisen teoksen juonen epäuskottavuus ei häirinnyt lainkaan, mutta henkilöiden epäuskottava asema mm. maailmanpolitiikan keskushahmoina oli häiritsevä sekä muutenkin henkilöiden käyttäytyminen ei ollut luonnollista tietyissä tilanteissa. 3[/spoiler][color=#16a085]48. A book from your TBR list chosen at random[/color] [spoiler=Lilian Kallio: Ugudibuu]Sattumanvaraisesti ilman suunnittelua ja syytä omasta kirjahyllystä otettu luettavaksi. Juuri tämä kirja valikoitui lähinnä siksi, että oli hyllyssä siinä silmien korkeudella ns. tyrkyllä.   Kirja kertoo 5 nuoren naisen selviytymisestä maailmassa, missä kaikki muut ihmiset ovat kadonneet. Tarinan kerrontakeinona käytetään paljon dialogia – osittain Tampereen murteella. Jokaisella henkilöllä on omat vaikeutensa autioituneessa maailmassa. Kirja on kirjoitettu vuonna 1975 ja hauskasti siinä on myös sen ajan henkeä kuten pyöritettävät lankapuhelimet, kaljakorit ja vakosamettihousut. Pääosin henkilöt kuitenkin olivat aika rasittavia ja lukukokemuksenakin tarina jäi keskinkertaiseksi. 2½ [/spoiler][color=#16a085]49. Äkkiseltään aika haastavalta näyttää - keksimistä ja tekemistä riittää. GR haaste näyttää olevan paljon helpompi kuten muinakin vuosina. Siihen olen jo valikoinutkin alustavasti kirjoja. Ei näytä kylläkään ne valikoidut kirjat suurelta osin istuvan Popsugariin. Helmetistä ei taaskaan tiedä kuin vuoden lopussa, mutta täytyy alkaa kattoo vähän tarkemmn tätä Popsugarin listaa nyt.
