A dark academia book - [url=https://www.risingshadow.fi/library/book/8844-kirke]Madeline Miller: Kirke[/url]   Löytyy listoilta ja perusteluna kai on, että Kirke on noita ja valmistaa taikakeinoin yrteistä ja kasveista mikstuuraa tai myrkkyä, joiden käyttämisen tarkoitusperät eivät aina ole hyvää tarkoittavia.   [i]Kirke[/i] on hyvin toteutettu kirja ja Millerin versiota Kirken tarinasta oli mukava lukea. Vanhaan tarustoon on saatu tavallaan nykyaikainen lähestymistapa säilyttäen kuitenkin vanhan ajan lumoa. Tarinassa jumalten salit heräävät eloon. Toisaalta kirjassa tuodaan esiin kuolemattomien jumalien itseriittoisuus ja julmuus, jota voi peilata myös nykyaikaan. Kirjassa esiintyy sisarus vihaa ja oman edun tavoittelua, kiusaamista sekä vanhempien välinpitämättömyyttä ja hyljeksintää. Naisen asema ja hyväksikäyttö tuodaan myös esiin tarinassa. 4   25/50

Ehkä tämän kirjan kansikuva ei ole niistä visuaalisella tasolla rumin, ennemminkin sen esittämä maailma näyttää olevan ruma ja masentava. Hän on menettänyt muistinsa ja puhekykynsä, mutta häntä hoitava suomalaissyntyinen lääkäri olettaa vähäisten vihjeiden perusteella, että mies on suomalainen. Muistaakseni ainakin toisella sarjan päänäyttelijöistä oli kirja jossain vaiheessa haastattelua esillä ja suositteli faneja lukemaan myös novelliversion, koska se poikkeaa (niinkuin nämä nyt aina) jonkun verran sarjaversiosta. Jouduin metsästämään novellia jonkin aikaa (pidin sarjasta kovasti), koska näistä Thai novelleista ei helpolla löydy enkkukäännöksiä, mutta lopulta sain sen Meb e-kirjasovelluksen kautta hankittua. Voisin lukea Mebistä enemmänkin, mutta harmillisesti (joskin ymmärrettävästi) suurin osa valikoimaa on thainkielistä. Tosi tarinat ja myytit sekä reaalimaailma ovat pohjana epätodellisiin tarinoihin. Voisi sanoa genren siten olevan myös maagista realismia. Tarinat ovat myös ns. korkea kirjallisuutta.   Tarinat eivät ole vain pelkästään kauhuefektin aikaan saaminen vaan niissä on perustana reaalimaailman epäkohdat ja ilmiöt. Useissa tarinoissa keskiössä on huono parisuhde tai tyttöporukan itsekeskeisyys. Keskeisessä asemassa on köyhälistö, slummit ja laitapuolen asukkaat. Mielenterveys ongelma teema on paljon edustettuna.   Joukkoon mahtuu makaabereita, häiritseviä ja vainoharhaisia tarinoita. Mukavia tarinoita ei joukosta löydy. 4-   34/50
