Aikaa on kulunut viime kirjan ja prologin tapahtumista 10 vuotta, joten lapset ovat jo teini-ikäisiä. (Se kun lapsia alituisesti kutsuttiin teineiksi paikoissa, mihin termi ei mielestäni istunut, häiritsi melkoisesti läpi kirjan.)   Kirjan alkupuoli tuntuu perustuvan aisteihin enemmän kuin [i]Lintuhäkki[/i] – Malorien mielen täyttää pelko ja vainoharha.  Etenkin alkupuolikkaassa juonen eteneminen on vähäistä, jälkimmäisessä puolikkaassa alkaa vasta tapahtumaan. Butler: Parable of the Sower[/url]   Eletään ilmastonmuutoksen ja siitä johtuvien lieveilmiöiden runtelemassa maailmassa. Väkivalta, ryöstelyt, raiskaukset ja huumeiden käyttö on arkipäivää. Keskiluokkaisten aitojen ympäröimä yhteiskuntakaan ei ole enää turvassa ulkopuolisten ryöstelijöiden tunkeutumiselta.   Tarina kertoo uudenlaisen yhteisön, uskonnon, perustamisesta ja se on myös matkakertomus.   Yksi kirjan teemoista on rodulliset kysymykset. Tulevaisuuden maailmassa rotujen välinen epäluuloisuus vallitsee edelleen. Mustat karsasti valkoisia ja päinvastoin. Maailma on väkivaltainen ja oli vaarallista liikkua eri rotuisten keskuudessa. Orjuus asia on myös kirjan teemoja: suuryhtiöt palkkasivat työvoimaa, jolle maksettiin pientä ”palkkaa”, jota voitiin käyttää vain yhtiön omistamissa kaupoissa. Aluksi hahmot esiintyivät erikseen vuoron perään, kunnes kohtasivat, jolloin kerronta tapahtui hahmojen yhteisten kokemusten kautta.   Hahmot joutuivat tahoillaan helvettiin. Kirja on lyhyt ja toiminta täytteinen. Toiminnan kuvailusta sai hyvin visuaalisen tunteen, ihan kuin olisi leffaa katsonut. Tarina ei kuitenkaan ollut täysosuma omaan mieltymykseeni. 2½   28/52
