Vuonna 2019 julkaistu "jännäri" sijoittuu vuoden 1910 Helsinkiin ja sisältää nykylapselle oletettavasti täysin vieraita termejä kuten: hautausmaan vahtimestari, kansakoulu, förskotti ja Bobrikoffin linja. Lisäksi tämänpäivän kukkahattuilijat varmasti kauhistuisivat siitä, että kyseinen vahtimestari uhkailee lapsia aseellaan ja jopa ampuu näitä päin. Yllättävän informatiivinen 136 sivuinen kirja kuitenkin on muumioita koskien, oppi itsekin uusia asioita. Lainasin kirjaston e-kirja palvelusta, kun en jaksanut alkaa miettimään mitään isompia teoksia tähän kohtaan - ja ainahan on hyvä tutustua itselle vieraisiin kirjailijoihin, ainakin silloin tällöin.   44/52   [spoiler]1. A book that you consider comfort reading - [url=https://www.risingshadow.fi/library/book/8985-ihmeellinen-kuherruskuukausi]Kosti Koskinen: Ihmeellinen kuherruskuukausi[/url]   Tämän kohdan voi kai tulkita kahdella tapaa: 1) lukeminen, mikä on mukavuusalueella tai 2) lohdullista lukemista. No, perustelen jollain tapaa molemmat.   1)     Kauhunovellit ovat mukavuusaluettani. Luen niitä varsin mielelläni.   2)   Kirjan löytyminen uudelleen ja sen julkaiseminen nykylukijoille on jotenkin ihanaa ja lohdullista. Tämä kauhukokoelma julkaistiin alun perin vuonna 1930 ja tuskin oli silloinkaan mikään myyntimenestys, mutta vääryys on sen täydellinen poisjääminen spekulatiivisen fiktion tai kauhukirjallisuuden listauksista vuosikymmeniksi. Kyse kun ei ole mistään rajatapauksesta vaan tarinat ovat selvästi kauhutarinoita. Kirja on ollut täydellisesti unohduksissa, kunnes Boris Hurtta (jo edesmennyt hänkin) löysi kirjan sattumalta ja kertoi löydöstään Portin numerossa 2/2007. Kiinnostuin toki kirjasta jo silloin ja tajusin vasta myöhemmin, että kirjasta olisi Pasilan kirjavarastossa ollut kappale lainattavanakin. En kuitenkaan tullut lainanneeksi kirjaa. Yllätyin iloisesti, kun Helmivyö julkaisi kirjan uudelleen ja on nyt onneksi helpommin saatavilla.   Tarinoiden kerronta on hienosti toteutettu niin, että niiden tunnelma on aistittavissa ja mielikuvat tulevat melkein visuaalisesti tajuntaan. Osassa tarinoista on painajaisunen omainen surrealistinen tunnelma sisällön kuitenkaan olematta sekava. Tarinat ja niiden vanhanaikainen ja kuvaileva kerronta tapa eivät varmastikaan ole kaikkien makuun, mutta minulle nämä tarinat upposivat vallan mainiosti. 4   42/52
