A9. A book about a problem facing society today - Nnedi Okorafor: Binti
Yhteiskunnallinen ongelma: terrorismi.
Kirja käsittelee terrorismia todella erikoisella tavalla.
Jos aiot lukea kirjan, älä lue alla olevaa piilotettua osiota.
[Spoileri - klikkaa]
En tiedä mikä on kirjailijan tarkoitusperä tällaiselle näkökannalle – shokeeraus, provosointi, suvaitsevaisuuden alleviivaus, anteeksiannon ehdottomuus, terrorismin oikeutus jostain syystä vai ihan vaan lapsellinen pohjustus lopun harmonisoinnille, no ihan sama sinänsä – en ala kuitenkaan vihaamaan kirjailijaa fiktiivisen tuotoksen takia, jonka arvomaailma eroaa omastani toisin kuin monet suuttuivat Dan Simmonsille niinikään fiktiivisen Flashbackin takia.
Tarina on melko yksinkertainen ilman koukeroita ja käänteitä ja lyhyytensä vuoksi asioiden taustat jäi pintapuoliseksi. Kerronta on ihan OK, vaikkakin paikoin yksioikoinen.

Patrick Rothfuss: Name of the Wind
Leigh Bardugo: The Language of Thorns
AIVAN IHANA! Feministisiä satuja, huikeita käänteitä, upea kuvitus ja varsinkin versiot "Hannusta ja Kertusta/Piparkakkupojasta" ja "Pienestä merenneidosta" salpasivat hengityksen. Sisältää LGBT:tä, luonnonilmiöitä tärkeässä roolissa, naissankareita ja muutaman sydäntäsärkevän kohtauksen. Ehdoton suositus!
Luettu 2/50.

20. A book by a local author – Reijo Mäki: Huhtikuun tytöt

7. A book set in a country that fascinates you - Haruki Murakami: After dark

Kirja kertoo köyhien mustien asemasta nykyamerikassa ja poliisin asenteista heitä kohtaan. [Spoileri - klikkaa]

Adv. 3. A book that was being read by a stranger in a public place - R. J. Palacio: Ihme

32. A book from a celebrity book club J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter#4)

29. A book about or set on Halloween - Brian K. Vaughan: Paper girls 1

29. A book about or set on Halloween Roger Zelazny: A Night in the Lonesome October
Suosittelen kirjaa ilolla!

Suosittelen kirjaa ilolla!

34. A book that's published in 2018 - Nonna Wasiljeff: Loukkupoika
Kuuntelin tämän äänikirjana enkä valitettavasti voi suositella. Lukijalla on ärsyttävän suuri vaikutus siihen, kuinka kirjan kokee. Hyvä lukija voi nostaa kirjan aivan uudelle tasolle, huono taas, no, miettikää itse miltä kuulostaa, kun pelottava vartija karjuu kirouksia heleän eteerisellä keijukaisäänellä. Tuo keijukaisääni ei siis ollut lukijan oikea ääni, vaan lukija muutti ääntään aina vartijan vuorosanoissa.

40. Your favorite prompt from the 2015 , 2016 or 2017 POPSUGAR Reading Challenges - Shirley Jackson: The Lottery and Other Stories
2015 haasteessa kohta A book of short stories. Ei välttämättä suosikki, mutta helppo. Vähintään yksi novellikokoelma vuosittain pitää lukea.
Kokoelma on koottu The Lotteryn, jota jotkut aikalaiset luulivat tositarinaksi, saaman kohun ja suosion jälkimainingeissa. Useassa tarinassa esiintyy mies nimeltä James Harris. Kokoelmaa varten Shirleyn aiempia novelleja on muutettu James Harris teeman mukaiseksi.
Novelleissa on omaelämäkerrallista sisältöä. Koska luen samalla Shirley Jacksonin elämäkertaa, novellien merkitys aukenee paremmin, vaikka kaikkien tarinoiden pointti jäi siltikin itselleni pimentoon.

2015 haasteessa kohta A book of short stories. Ei välttämättä suosikki, mutta helppo. Vähintään yksi novellikokoelma vuosittain pitää lukea.
Kokoelma on koottu The Lotteryn, jota jotkut aikalaiset luulivat tositarinaksi, saaman kohun ja suosion jälkimainingeissa. Useassa tarinassa esiintyy mies nimeltä James Harris. Kokoelmaa varten Shirleyn aiempia novelleja on muutettu James Harris teeman mukaiseksi.
Novelleissa on omaelämäkerrallista sisältöä. Koska luen samalla Shirley Jacksonin elämäkertaa, novellien merkitys aukenee paremmin, vaikka kaikkien tarinoiden pointti jäi siltikin itselleni pimentoon.
